Despite the perils of bike bum (which I've blogged about extensively in the past) I still try to get on my bike at least once a fortnight for a quick flit around the lake. Sometimes I go around twice. Then there are the times my daughter strongly suggests we do it three times. Anyway, it's a form of exercise I actually enjoy even though my nether regions complain. So I was delighted to discover there are benefits over and above the whole fitness caper.
Did you know that riding a bike can help your skin?
According to Redbook Magazine March 2015, just an hour of bike riding a week may help prevent, even reverse, skin aging.
What?! Now that's something that pricks up the ears of this Deep Fried chick. Anything that has "reverse" and "aging" in the one sentence is definitely worth a read.
Apparently once we turn 40 our skin's outer layer thickens making it drier and rougher while the inner layer gets thinner which makes it more prone to wrinkles and sagging. Yep. I can vouch for that.
Researchers at McMaster University in Ontario Canada asked a group of Deep Fried over 65 year old couch potatoes to ride their bikes at a moderately strenuous pace for 30 minutes twice a week.
After only three months their skin looked more like those of people HALF their age with a thicker inner layer and a smoother outer layer.
What?!
Are you serious?!
If that's true then I declare it's a Deep Fried miracle.
On ya bike!
Who's with me?
better dust off my bike then!!
ReplyDeleteWhat? How can this be? I need a bike asap.
ReplyDeleteWhere's my bike?! Where's my bike!!!!???

Ai @ Sakura Haruka
I love riding bikes, not quite as much with 3 kids in tow but it's such a fun feeling!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! My brother left a bike with me when he headed overseas for an extended period. I have yet to jump on it but you've just convinced me I should! :-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the indoor spin bike counts? I'm on it!
ReplyDeleteI don't need a better excuse than that!
ReplyDeleteLove this. I just started bike riding. Can't wait to go out again this weekend and get my youthful glow on!
ReplyDeleteI used to be a spin addict - I'd do 3 or 4 classes a week. We be recently got our bikes our again as the twinions are getting so good on theirs. Love getting out there!
