Day 1982 - Dilkara Essence of Australia

Do you have a dream? Imagine ...

Imagine if you were a hairdresser who one day dreamed of having her own product line.  Imagine if that product line would capture the core of who you are and celebrate the spirit of the people who walked before you.  Imagine if that product was able to not only give great hair but also smelt like the land that you called home. Imagine if that product was a hit and opportunities started to emerge not just in your home town and your home country, but overseas? Imagine that!

As you know I love to celebrate people in business. I also love to celebrate the dreams and success of others.  I particularly like to support and encourage women and children in their endeavours.

Well today I am celebrating Dilkara Essence of Australia and the woman behind it all.

She is a hairdresser with a dream.  The only difference is she stopped dreaming and started doing.

Julie Okely is a Canberra based mum of two with her own in-home salon.  She's had various successful business ventures and is quite the entrepreneur.  This venture is more than a venture though - it's a calling.

Dilkara means rainbow in Aboriginal.  Julie is proudly indigenous and the product she has created is from ingredients sourced from local indigenous communities.

I have tried the shampoo and conditioner, as well as the detangler and body wash, and I can honestly say they smell amazing.  Somehow she has managed to do what many shampoo manufacturers have not and that is to create a sensory experience over and above clean hair.  They smell fresh, natural, earthy and uniquely Australian.

The testimonials are pouring in on the Dilkara Facebook Page about how much people love the products.

Julie is not only creating a brand that people are raving about but also something that supports and honours the local community and her Aboriginal heritage. Plus she's inspiring other women in business along the way.

Imagine that!

Imagine ...
