Do you have an appliance at home that bites you? Damn ferals.
I have two that attack me often. One is the toasted sandwich press and the other is my curling iron. I have scars up and down my arm from where I've burned myself with both beasts.
With the sandwich press it happens when the top is open and I reach over to turn it off at the powerpoint. My arm ends up hitting the lid. Ssssssssss. Nothing like the sound of burning flesh.
With the curling iron I can hit my ear, cheek, hand, finger and arm. Last night (right before I was due out to an event) it was my neck. Ssssssssss. Side note: I had to Google "how to write a sizzling sound" because I've never put a sizzle in writing before. Googs advised Ssssssssss. Personally, I would have probably used a T and perhaps some Z's.

It bit me on the neck! PS There's nothing like a bathroom selfie to highlight how dirty the mirror is. |
Do you have an appliance that bites?
How clean is your bathroom mirror?
How would you write a sizzle sound?
How much do you love the word "onomatopoeia"?
Just so you know, I didn't leave my hair all ringlets like that. I did end up combing it through. Despite the look of a hickey on my neck (nothing a scarf won't fix) I headed off to the book launch last night of a fellow Canberra author. Great networking! So lovely to mix with other writers.
Congrats on the book launch but that burn looks nasty!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt actually cleared up OK in the end. A little red but not sure this one will scar. Fingers crossed!
DeleteOh ouch! I always, without fail, reach barehanded into the microwave. I can't explain it. My brain just thinks it will be fine!
ReplyDeleteYes! That happens ...
DeleteOuchy - nasty burn on your neck! Must admit that my GHD bites too and sometimes the racks in my oven are in foul moods and attack also. I'd get caught out with a dirty bathroom mirror too most likely. Sizzle sound - um I'd probably just do what you did. It's hard when you think about it!! Ok I had to google the word Onomatopoeia - thanks for the one new thing learned today and it is not even 8am yet! :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad I could increase the vocab Min! Now the challenge is going to be using it in a real life "talking to someone" sentence ...
DeleteOoh ouch! I have a scar on my neck from a bite from a rogue hair straightener, such a painful area!!
ReplyDeleteYep, those straighteners are the evil cousins of the curling irons for sure
DeleteMy coffee machine hisses and spits. This morning I've declared it's going in the bin!
ReplyDeleteHope your neck heals quickly. x
Monsters! The lot of them ...
DeleteYou look fab! You have style girl! But ouch to the burns! Can't say I have appliances that attack me, maybe you need to buy some friendlier appliances! Haha.
ReplyDeleteYep. Or if I can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen! (And bathroom).
DeleteOuchies!!! I always burn myself on the oven. You'd think I'd learn :)
ReplyDeleteyeah, they bite too
DeleteI actually like the ringlets look. Last visit to my hairdresser... a while ago now, she did the beach curl thing - so just used the curling iron in the middle part of my hair and it left big loose curls. Which stayed in for at least long enough for me to get in my car and drive home!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the book event!
Hahaha. It always looks so good at the hairdressers!
DeleteOuch, ouch, ouch! I swear I am constantly in the wars and I'm not sure even if I can blame the appliances! I seem to rush around so quickly I often get fingers and all sorts stuck/cut/hurt. Hope the book launch was fun and scarf are a wonderful thing to cover up any nasty appliance bites!
ReplyDeleteI probably shouldn't be blaming the appliances either. If I wasn't rushing it probs wouldn't happen. Hang on a minute. who's side are you on?
DeleteWell, the end result was sensational but ouch to the neck burn! The hair straightener often gets my fingers and I'm quite partial to an iron burn and oven burn. Hot oil splats up the arm have been a fetching look in the past also. As for the spelling, I'm with you. I think a nice, 'tssszzzz' would do the trick!
ReplyDeleteYES! I agree, Tssszzzz. Definitely
DeleteI always pinch my finger in the hinge on the straightening irons - ouch! (Ungvita cream works a treat on burns by the way!)
ReplyDeleteWill need to check out that cream! And hinge pinches can hurt!
DeleteListen to us with our living-in-peace first-world-problems.
Don't get me started on paper cuts ...
My old curling iron used to misbehave like this as well, but I'm so happy with my new well trained one! Coincidentally I blogged about it this week!
ReplyDeleteMy iron and the racks in my oven are what attacks me nowadays! Maybe the universe is telling me to avoid ironing and cooking!
Yep! That's what the universe is saying. Listen to the universe ... (especially with the iron bit ... as for cooking, you might not get away with ditching that one)
DeleteOuch! My waffle maker bites. By the time it makes my "hot sandwich" (as the boys call it), I've lost my appetite. Good call on the scarf! x
ReplyDelete"Hot sandwich". Love that
