Day 2153 - Coerver Coaching Performance Academy

When kids aim for the stars.

I like to help people achieve their goals.  It's what I do.  As a parent we do what we can to  help our kids achieve their goals too.

Some kids have small goals. Some kids have big goals.  Some kids have massive dreams that are made up of a bunch of smaller dreams.

Derek and I do what we can for Tahlia with her modelling and Darby with his soccer.  We like that they have dreams.

Today Darby's soccer dream took another massive leap forward.  Today he was inducted into the Coerver Performance Academy.

Saying he was "inducted" sounds all very official and fancy.

The reality is we turned up, paid our money, received his kit and participated in an information session.

It's all very excited for this young man.

Last weekend he went to the Coerver Academy trials.  He wouldn't let us stay.  He wanted to be on his own without the parents watching.  So we slunk away ...

When I went to collect him he was very upset.  Cranky with himself.  Withdrawn.

He didn't feel good about his trial and was sure he'd missed out on selection.  So we talked him through it and told him there were other options.  Not to worry.  It will all work out the way it's meant to.

On Tuesday I received the email.  "It is with great pleasure we congratulate you on your selection for the 2015/2016 Coerver Coaching Performance Academy Program."

Squeals of delight. And that was from me! He'd made it.

So today we fronted up to the induction session and he got his uniform, training sweater, socks, ball, drink bottle, bag and cap.  As well as the Global Home Study Program.

The Global Home Study Program includes motivational messages, ball mastery techniques, goal setting, technical practice sheets, training self analysis, global skills testing (by age group), a food diary and an overall weekly log for good life balance (school, sport, family, friends).

That's what I am loving about this Academy.  Its program is a proven worldwide program that concentrates on individual training for optimal performance both on and off the field.

Kids get to learn the ball handling techniques of some of the best players in the world from the world's number one coaching method in soccer skills.

When Coerver say they're global, they actually mean it. They're in 44 countries around the world and endorsed by FIFA.  Many of the major clubs in the world use Coerver coaching within their training regimes.

The interesting thing for me was that the Asia Pacific head office is right here in Canberra! Around 18,000 athletes within the Asia Pacific region use the Coerver coaching methods every single week.

As a matter of interest, the Global Head Office is in Japan.

It's also interesting to note that Adidas have been partnering with Coerver for 26 years as their exclusive supplier of uniforms and equipment.

Anyway, they had a record number of kids trial for the Academy and spots are limited, so Darbs is very grateful he got in.  There are some kids who unfortunately missed out.

It looks like soccer won't be slowing down for us anytime soon!

Keep aiming for the stars Darby.  We're very proud of you.
