You would think that heading off to a beach side retreat would have the opposite effect. You'd think you'd just want to give up on everything, completely wind down and just go splat.
But no. Most trips I take I get the urge to do a shite load of walking, eat loads of fruit and salad, and drink smoothies (with or without vodka in them). Hell, if there's a gym, I might even find the urge to step on a machine.
Which means our recent trips to the South Coast and Manly have revitalised me in the energy department.
It may have something to do with the shock of no longer fitting into my white summer jeans or the fact that my swimsuit body has deteriorated in a big way (with the emphasis on big).
Or it could just have something to do with having the time to concentrate on myself for a change.
Either way, our recent seaside jaunts have kick started my summer fitness program and healthy eating plan.

Yesterday's dawn walk around our local lake (snapped by Miss 16 on her iPhone) |
- Mondays: 5km walk
- Tuesdays: 5km bike ride
- Wednesdays: 5km walk with intervals of running (groan)
- Thursdays: 10km bike ride
- Fridays: 5km walk with more intervals of running (bigger groan).
- Weekend: Finding family activities that include incidental exercise
My healthy eating plan is all about firing up the Ninja for some fruit smoothies (minus the vodka) and green juices, drinking loads of water, green tea, salads at lunch time, snacking on seeds and nuts and trying not to eat the same amount of food as my husband of an evening. He's 6 foot 5 and over 100kg. I'm thinking I probably don't need the same amount of fuel as he does.

Looks just like an exotic cocktail doesn't it! Nothing but fruit. |
Let's see how we go!
I plan to fit comfortably back into those jeans within two weeks because right now they are attacking me in places that no woman should be attacked. The only way I can get them on is to wear enormous shirts that cover the fact that the button is undone.
Do holidays get you motivated for health and fitness?
What motivates you to exercise?
Anyone else getting ready to join the white jean brigade?
Gotta dash. My bike and my daughter are sitting out in the driveway waiting for me.
Happy Tuesday!
I'm exactly the same as you. For me, it's the extra time I have to be able to go for a long walk in the morning or go to the gym. Exercise also helps relax me and keeps me in charge of my anxiety, so any chance I can get on holidays - I'll take it and use for exercise.
ReplyDeleteYeah. It's that time thing isn't it. Never enough of it.
DeleteGood for you - holidays make me feel like running....away! bahahaha
ReplyDeleteLOL.
DeleteI went for a long walk yesterday and it reminded me how good it feels to do just that!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it does feel good. Great way to start the day ...
DeleteI love walking on holidays, and the occasional run. And there's nothing better than having a lovely smoothie and a fruit salad on a tropical island! Good luck with your exercise :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh, yes ... now you have me dreaming of a tropical island ...
DeleteStrange how holidays have that effect on us. I think i might need to go on holiday to kick start my exercising
ReplyDeleteThat's as good a reason as any to have a vacay!
DeleteWhat an awesome routine! Gosh I wish I could kick start myself into a routine like that.....
ReplyDeleteGo on a beach side holiday! It works!!
DeleteI love walking on holidays -- and yes, come to think of it, they always make me want to move more. But I like to move as much as I can anyway. I figure I spend enough time sitting on the computer so when I can move, I do! Hope those jeans are fitting well soon. I have a denim skirt that is attacking me atm. It's not nice.
ReplyDeleteDamn denim. Just no give! It's definitely a one side relationship ...
