What the hell are Sirtfoods?
Sirtfoods is a term applied to foods that contain naturally occurring compounds that have the potential to activate sirtuins.
Now that we know what sirtfoods are, what the hell are sirtuins?
Sirtuins are a class of proteins found in living things that (according to research) are involved in regulating many important biological processes such as ageing, celullar death, inflammation and metabolim.
We humans have seven sirtuins which are cleverly named SIRT1, SIRT2, SIRT3 ... through to SIRT7. Genius.
Apparently our cells can die when under stress, but these Sirtuins protect the cells from death.
Perhaps that makes them cellular body guards?
Sirtfoods are the foods that wake up our cellular body guards so they can stay alert and protective.
According to Good Health Magazine (November 2015) the best Sirtfoods are:
- Passionfruit
- Blueberries
- Green tea
- Chocolate
- Olive oil
- Onions
- Turmeric
Other sirtfoods noted on the web include:
- Kale
- Parsley
- Capers
- Citrus fruits
- Apples
- Red wine
So there you have it. That's a quick rundown on Sirtfoods.
