Day 2305 - Bungendore Country Muster

Who likes listening to buskers?

Busking on the streets of Bungendore - Ann Bell and her band.
There are buskers all over Bungendore this weekend with the 2016 Country Muster in full swing.

I actually knew nothing about it until 9.30 this morning and by 10.30 the teen and I were wandering the streets with my folks listening to the sounds of the country.

Buskers set up outside cafes, pubs, banks, businesses.
The buskers are not the sum total of the Country Muster.  Not by a long shot. It's a full country music festival.

According to their website, the Muster is actually the only "all Australian" country music festival in Australia and exists to elevate the Bungendore community while at the same time bringing focus to Australian country music.

But the buskers are a part of it.

Some buskers perform alone, others perform in duos or groups
The buskers line the streets of Bungendore outside cafes, pubs, banks and businesses and spectators vote for their faves.  It's my understanding that the winning buskers get to perform on the big stage tonight. This is a great opportunity for any budding country music stars out there or for people who just want to perform in front of a crowd.

Many buskers sing, while others simply play instruments like Mary Hunt with her fiddle.

People come from all over the state with their tents and caravans to hang out at the Bungendore showground for sometimes up to a full week before the festival which is a great little money spinner for this little country town.

As you know, I'm NO CAMPER, but listening to a few buskers over a cup of tea appealed to me which is why we took the drive this morning.

Oh, and it helped that a couple of the buskers are long lost second cousins of mine.  It's always great to catch up with family.

The Bungendore Country Muster is on the first weekend of every February with next year's date being 4-5 February 2017 and the following year 3 and 4 February.

If you're a country music fan or simply a Canberran looking for a day out, check out the muster!
