It's all about the base.
What's a three day base? Well I'm using that phrase to describe the base outfit I wear three days in a row.
It's no secret that my signature winter style is jeans, jacket, scarf and boots. It's also no secret that I often wear the same clothes two or three days in a row.
Here's how I create three completely different looks without changing my base.
The Three Day Base : Option One
Let's start with the basic denim jeans and black turtleneck. This is the "base".

How do I get three days out of this base?
I simply change the jackets, boots and handbags.

Day Two: For movies and lunch I decided on the fur trimmed poncho (Rockmans), long two tone boots (Macy's) and a handbag that has been lurking in the back of my closet for years.
Day Three: For a client meeting I went with the electric blue blazer (Target) with cotton scarf (Rockmans), ankle boots (FSW) and reversible tote (Sash &Belle).
The Three Day Base: Option Two
Now let's try a pair of fitted utility/cargo style jeans and a long tee (you'll notice this t-shirt swings longer at the back, shorter at the front)

Day One: This was the day I was headachey and had fibromyalgia pain so I needed to feel "cuddled". I wore the base with a cardigan (Abercrombie and Fitch), long two toned boots (Macy's) and carry all tote (Sash & Belle).
Day Two: For a dressier feel I teamed the based with a black blazer (H&M), cotton scarf (KMart) and my new quilted ankle boots (FSW).
Day Three: For a drive to Cooma to visit my Nanna I went super casual in my white parka (Costco) and white sneakers (KMart).
The Three Day Base: Option Three
This time we go with basic black.

You can do anything when you start with an all black base.
Day One: You can get a corporate look by adding a lovely fitted blazer (Zara), a corporate style handbag and some heels.
Day Two: Dressing for clients with cream blazer (H&M), classic handbag (Sash & Belle) and a signature scarf ("McQueen", Hong Kong).
Day Three: Add a burst of colour and attitude with a red leather jacket (Sydney markets), lace up boots (FSW) and signature scarf ("McQueen", Hong Kong).
So there you have it. That's how I team my signature style with a three day base.
Having a base outfit helps to cut down on clothing decisions, reduces the washing pile and makes shopping economical!
Because you know I'm all about that base
'Bout that base, it's no trouble

Thanks Meghan.
Do you wear the same clothes three days in row?
What's your signature style?
Did you know I was all about the base?
I'm too much of a messy eater (and germ freak) to wear clothes 3 days in a row. But I love that poncho - great look!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit choices. Yes, I wear my clothes 3 days in a row too. I change bags around and I have a very large boot collection too.
ReplyDeleteExcellent variety with your base looks, nobody would ever clock it! I repeat the same things for homewear but when I get out and about I like to switch it up.
ReplyDeleteI think two days is my limit but basically I have the same base look all week regardless, just different items. I think that's why I also have so many jackets and bags.
ReplyDeleteI like your way to combine pieces of clothes. It looks casual, but elegant. Black turtleneck with denim are perfect combination, as for me.
ReplyDeleteIt really is all about the base! If we don't get the base right then there is no outfit!
ReplyDeleteYou're a genius. I love this fashion advice you clever chicken. I gotta get better at doing this, might save on the washing as well. I just need to be more vigilant about wearing an apron around the house, because I am a slopper of stuff :)
ReplyDeleteWow I just loved the hair styles of the little angels you have shown in the pictures; I like the different ponytail styles in this blog.
