I don't like fishing. Giving a living creature a lip piercing and then bashing it over the head is not my idea of a relaxing pastime.
The bashing over the head bit isn't my husband's thing either which is why he kisses his fish and then throws them back.
He still likes to fish though. Apparently fishing is relaxing.
I get that.
Kind of.
But I figure that if you're going to sit around not doing anything, then embrace it fully in the splat position.
If you are going to be doing something, then take the bull by the horns (or the fish by the gills) and do it.
This hybrid sport of sitting around not doing anything while you're actually trying to do something makes me antsy.
Obviously that's more a reflection of me than it is of the sport of fishing.
Anyway this is the Gone Fishin' edition of the Lovin' Life Linky because we're at the coast and yesterday we hired a boat and went fishing.
(In my mind we hired a boat and went magazine reading.)
Either way we sat around not doing anything which is probably not a bad way to spend a Saturday.
Do you like to fish?
What are you lovin' about life this week?

My husband used to be a keen fisherman before we got married and before kids but we hardly ever go anymore. We should go again when it gets a tad warmer as the kids do love being on the water and fishing too!
ReplyDeleteI think part of the thrill is just doing something special with Dad.
DeleteMy Dad was a very keen fisherman, but he preferred going deep sea fishing. I went with him a few times, and spent most of the time being seasick. At least you appear to have had calm water. I'd be happy just to go along for the boat ride :)
ReplyDeleteI reckon sea sickness would come part and parcel with deep sea fishing. I'm not sure I'd cope with being on a smallish boat in the middle of the ocean. #jaws
DeleteI know what you mean about the 'purpose' of fishing but I still don't mind throwing a line in...But not keeping anything caught. However, we have only hired a boat once since coming to live on the coast. Even then it was because our teen grandkids were with us. About an hour out in a boat is enough for me but I do enjoy seeing the sights from the water.
ReplyDeleteI like the sights too. Don't love when the boat starts rocking and water comes up too high against the sides. You know ... the whole prospect of sinking and having my legs dangling ... arrrrghhhhhh
DeleteI have not been out on a boat since I moved to the beach. Perhaps I'll start with a champagne sunset cruise though! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI've only been fishing once and I hated the putting the bait on bit and acted like a girl and refused to do it. I was at school so we're talking 30+yrs ago.
The pictures look so lovely and peaceful!
I don't fish for the same reason. A champagne cruise is much more my style.
DeleteWe have started to fish more since my
ReplyDeleteSister gave the kids a rod for Christmas last year and living so close to water, it is easy to go after school etc
Going after school sounds like a great idea! A great way to unwind after a school day. I'd still be the one on the chair reading the magazine though.
DeleteI haven't fished for years but I did used to enjoy it. Only ever to catch one or two for dinner. I've never come across anyone hitting a fish over the head to kill one though. Might take it up again when we are travelling full time.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I'm not much into eating fish either. Definitely not into preparing it for eating. I think I'd prefer to buy it with all the scaling and deboning already done
DeleteI like fishing as long as someone takes the fish off the hook for me!
ReplyDeleteI hear that!
DeleteJust found your Loving Life meme. How cute and cheerful. Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I've been fishing once in my life and felt guilty killing the worms.
DeleteHaha. Yep, me too!
DeleteI used to enjoy fishing as a young girl as my dad really enjoyed fishing. He doesn't go fishing any more though. My hubby has taken our daughters once or twice in the past but they were a bit too young and got bored easily, but we will attempt it again this year as the weather warms up as they're older now
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be a common theme ... kids going with their dads. It's a great way to spend time with Dad when he's feeling relaxed and lovin' life
DeleteI am not a fisherperson although my husband enjoys it. Would be quite happy to lounge on a boat though; providing adequate snacks, shade and toilet facilities were available.
ReplyDeleteToilet facilities are a must! We didn't have them on this trip, but it was only a short trip. I remember being in Noosa and we hired a boat which I insisted must have a toilet. It was a dinky little pot in a flimsy tent thing. I was almost tempted to jump in the river and pee instead of using the toilet. Almost ...
DeleteI haven't been fishing for years and years. It's not pleasant getting a hook caught in your thumb when you're putting bait on. Trust me! I love being near water though, so your afternoon sounds lovely! Thanks for hosting #LovinLifeLinky
