While there are elements of the colder months that I adore (hot tubs, open fires, doona days and winter clothing) there's also a whole lot I could do without (the winter blues and the increased fibromyalgia pain).
For the most part my fam are all sun bunnies, therefore the first day of summer brings much rejoicing in our house.
Despite the fact that turning the calendar page to the final month is making me hyperventilate with all that I still need to achieve before the end of year, the onset of summer provides me with great joy.
What I love about summer:
- That vacay state of mind even when you don't leave the house.
- The fresh fruit and salads with colourful cocktails over ice.
- The blue cloudless skies that make it feel like the possibilities are limitless
- The occasional summer storm that hits just when the world needs to cool down
- The ability to jump in the car and find the nearest swimming hole, whether it be beach, river, pond or public pool
- The BBQs and the picnics that you share with family and friends
- The early morning walks and late afternoon strolls when the temperature is "just right".
- The temporary lack of routine that comes with school holidays.
- The fact that we have air conditioning
- Getting sun on my skin and allowing myself to tan ever so slightly (even if it comes from a tube)
- Christmas and that celebration of family and friends.
What does summer mean to you?
Happy summer everyone!
Happy Lovin' Life Linky.

Looks like I'm super early for the linkup. Finding it hard to believe we are in December. Not sure what I love most about summer. Possibly spending time with the family at the beach.
ReplyDeleteThe beach is a winner for us too.
DeleteSwims in the pool, at the beach, bbqs, Christmas, holidays, sunshine - there's definitely a lot to love about summer!

So much to love
DeleteLeanne, I am loving exactly the same thing today!!! It's the first of December, yipee!
ReplyDeleteBe back later to link up my post.
SSG xxx
Yipeee!
DeleteI'm so looking forward to the summer holidays! I've got 3 weeks off starting from Xmas Eve and we're going to the beach for a few days. Huzzah!
ReplyDelete3 weeks? YAY!!
DeleteI love the lack of routine and feeling of being on holidays. Even if you go nowhere. Also summer means festival of Sydney and outdoor cinemas...love it!
ReplyDeleteFestival of Sydney sounds like fun.
DeleteI love the longer days, the mornings when the temp is perfect, moments by the pool. I hate the humidity & love our air con...which makes it more difficult to fathom why I'll be moving to QLD in the new year!
ReplyDeleteI don't like humidity either. My hair goes crazy wild anywhere north of Sydney. Which is why me contemplating a Qld "retirement" is also an odd choice.
DeleteHappy summer to you too! I love being able to just wear a light weight floaty dress in summer as opposed to jeans and jumpers. I also adore the summer fruits and yes summer cocktails at a location overlooking the water.
ReplyDeleteMaxi dresses are a fave of mine.
DeleteI love all things summer especially spending time at the beach and hot summer nights catching up with friends.
ReplyDeleteTime at the beach is the winner for me
DeleteNoooooo! I'm the opposite. I HATE summer. I'm hot and sweaty the entire time. I prefer winter - a temperate winter of course, not minus something....
ReplyDeleteThat's hysterical. You're up there hating summer. I'm down here hating winter. Do we need to house swap?
DeleteI love the kids running through the sprinkler or heading to the beach!
ReplyDeleteAhh the sprinkler. I remember those days. My kids missed that (as it was always drought when they were little). The magpies are having fun with it at the moment though ...
DeleteHappy Summer! I do like just about all the things you listed about summer + also that we have a pool! Summer in Brisbane though is very, very taxing! The humidity is ridiculous and it's very draining. For that reason, I am always relieved when Spring comes around again. I love our Brisbane Spring, Winter and Autumn - just such perfect comfortable weather. I'm a bit of an oddball I realise. :-) #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeletePool! Lucky ducks.
DeleteMy favourite seasons are actually spring and autumn but we don't seem to get them in Canberra anymore. Lucky to get 2 weeks of each. It's either damn hot or damn cold. So I choose damn hot I guess (although ideally I would like 25 degrees all year round).
To be honest, I probably love the cooler months more! The heat annoys me'
ReplyDeleteBy the end of summer I'll probably be rejoicing in autumn. LOL.
DeleteI like(d) getting to December when I was working and at school because it meant only a few weeks to go until BLISS...some time off, no phone calls about school and family celebration time along with Christmas. Now it is different and is just another month but I am doing my best to enter the spirit of the festive season. I prefer temperate climates and we are happier to be here on the coast now than being in the hot west of Sydney (which also got quite cold). I favour air con as a great way to get through summer and if we had a pool (as we always did) I would be in it most days.
ReplyDeleteAir con is a must.
DeleteI love the same things as you Leanne plus we love heading to the Coast for a couple of weeks from Boxing Day. Days of sunshine, walks along the beach, prawns and swimming. Yes, a lot to love about Summer that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love summer and look forward to the warmer weather, especially after such a long winter here in Melbourne!
ReplyDeleteThe winter was ridiculously long this year. I agree.
DeleteI love all the same things especially - the longer nights (or the illusion of them) because we get to paddle during the week.
ReplyDeleteThose "extra hours" at the end of each day are a definite bonus.
DeleteI'm not a huge fan of Summer, as I hate the heat, but at least it means holidays, time with family and Christmas celebrations. Yay!
ReplyDeleteYay!
DeleteThank heavens for air conditioning I say! Makes summer bearable. Though I do agree with you on this point: That vacay state of mind even when you don't leave the house. The other thing I love about summer is MY BIRTHDAY! lol
ReplyDeleteThe birthday is a bonus!
DeleteLove the warmer weather but I'm SO not ready for Christmas!! :) #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteMe either Lyndall. Me either ... For years we have just had to buy the gifts and turn up somewhere. This year I am behind in the whole gift thing and we're hosting. I'm not ready.
DeleteLove your list and although I enjoy the sun, I'm not really a lover of summer. I like the idea of it, but then when the heat and the sunscreen days hit I'm wishing for spring and autumn - my fave months. #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteYeah. I mentioned to Min up there that spring and autumn are actually my fave but we just don't get them in Canberra anymore. We skip those perfect days of 25 degrees. It's either HOT or COLD.
DeleteI love reading other Aussie bloggers because our seasons match up! All the US bloggers are launching into winter and snow and freezing temps - and we have blue skies, sunshine and our lovely dry heat. I could do without the flies though!
ReplyDeleteHaha. Yep, The bonus of having an Aussie bloggy tribe.
DeleteI love summer - although the heat can get a bit intense there are more holidays to relax and enjoy cooling off however you see fit, instead of rushing from air conditioned public transport to air-conditioned desk in the office and back home again!
ReplyDeleteThe year has flown by, seems so crazy it's December already!
It is crazy that it's December. I feel like a few months disappeared into the never never this year. I don't actually remember May at all. Did it happen?
DeleteThanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteYour welcome Charles.
DeleteDaylight savings, swimming, cocktails, Christmas and holidays! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI love summer! Looking forward to time off during the end of the month and time at the beach. Summer feels so relaxed!
ReplyDeleteShh! I'm still in denial that summer is over. *sigh* The end of daylight savings time makes me so sad! Or maybe London ruined me. I get so upset when I leave work and it's pitch black.
ReplyDeleteBut enough whinging: summer is the greatest! I have one word for you: Pavlova.
Really surreal reading this in the UK! I love (generally!) being able to lose some layers and the lighter evenings. But I have to say that I do love to cosy up with candles too! #LovinLifeLinky
