Day 2913 - Mindless Eating

How often do you eat without thinking?

I've talked a bit about mindfulness in the past and I've even chatted about mindful eating. But what about mindless eating?

I've noticed myself doing it more and more lately which is not helping me get back to my optimal weight.

Yesterday I had chocolate cake, salami and cheese for breakfast.  Why?  Because it was in front of me and I ate it.  Mindlessly.

I was dividing up my daughter's 18th birthday cake into sections for my husband to share at work when about 3 pieces mysteriously ended up in my mouth.

Then as I made my son's lunch I managed to add a salami chaser to the mix.

By the time I made my husband's lunch, three slices of cheese had bonded with the salami and the cake to create the breakfast of champions a middle aged mindless woman.

It occurred to me that mums often get into the habit of mindless eating.  As we taste test the creations we make for others, as we clear the plates at the end of a meal and as we clean out the fridge and the food cupboards, it is very easy to mindlessly pop food into our mouths. I mean, food can't go to waste can it?  You can't scrape it all into the bin.  There's starving kids in Africa and all that ...

So I was wondering, how many other mindless eaters are out there?

How often do you pop food into your mouth without a thought?

Anyone else had chocolate cake, salami and cheese for breakfast?

  5. I've never had that for breakfast, but there have been some pretty shocking ones in the past! I am definitely a mindless eater, I just pop whatever I see in to my mouth as I go about my day, especially after the kids have finished dinner and I hoover up all the leftovers. Really need to stop!
