Day 2995 - My word of the year (with a twist)

Happy New Word!

The idea of having a word for the year is a concept I grabbed by the balls dictionary quite a few years ago and it's served me well.  So here I am again with a word that will help lead me through the next twelve months.

Have you got your word ready for 2018?

The thing with the Word of the Year concept is that you've got to choose wisely.  It's also best to choose a word that works in all situations, in any challenge and with any question you pose to help direct and guide.

I spoke in a bit of detail about the Word of the Year concept in this December 2016 post and how it's helped inspire, motivate and challenge me over the last six years.

My words for the past few years have been

Recently in a business women's forum for Ausmumpreneur I came across the challenge of choosing an inspirational word starting with the first letter of your name.  What a great idea! Let's combine that with the Word of the Year concept to really test us.

Challenge accepted!

So for the past couple of days I've been doing that "staring at my belly button thing" trying to come up with a great word that will last a year and Lead me to the end with action, results and Limited Life altering challenges.

An "L" word to hold in my frontal Lobe whenever a big decision has to be made or an opportunity comes my way.  A word that will serve me for the Long haul.

So I came up with a List of Lovely L words to Lead me through the next 12 months with much Love, Laughter, Logic, Luck, Lessons, Loyalty and Leadership while remaining Lady-Like, Laid back and Level headed in the process. Oh, and something that will help me achieve Lots of results without Losing my mind. It's got to help me Love Life.

I've Looked at the List of ta-dahs I hope to achieve for 2018 - stuff to do with my children's book series, the magazine, my volunteer work, family, friends, community, my coaching business and my blogging - and worked out how much I can afford to focus on from a time, health and happiness perspective.  The best way to Live positively.

What word could help with all that?

Yesterday I chatted about saying goodbye to 2017 and how heavy I felt last year.  Heavy in mind, heavy of heart and heavy of body.  Heavier than I've been in quite some time.

I don't want to feel heavy this year.  I want to feel the opposite of heavy.  I want to feel Light.

And that right there is my word.

LIGHT.

I feel I should really Look at my responsibilities and Lighten the Load.  Listen to my inner dialogue and Learn to Let some things go.

I want to feel healthier and Lighter physically and also Lessen the amount of responsibility I have outside my sphere.

Really focus on what I need to move forward with the stuff that really matters and Learn to Let go of the rest.

My word will help me to:
  • Feel LIGHTer
  • Think LIGHTer
  • Choose LIGHTer
  • Eat LIGHTer
  • Drink LIGHTer
  • Work LIGHTer
  • Respond LIGHTer
  • React LIGHTer
  • Be LIGHTer

I will shine a LIGHT where it's needed and LIGHT the way with kindness, tolerance and acceptance wherever possible.

And if at any point there seems to be no LIGHT at the end of the tunnel I will take a dose of Sara Henderson and stride down there and LIGHT the bloody thing myself.

LIGHT

That's my word.

What's your word for 2018?

Can you choose a guiding word using the first letter of your name?

Anybody else need to feel lighter?

  1. Oh wow, I love that word so much I wish I'd thought of it! I'm struggling with my word this year, so something starting with J could be the ticket...Joy seems a tad twee and Journey? I hate that word. Maybe Jump?

  6. Oooh, this is a good one! Before I really thought about it I was wondering how you came up with that, but once you explained it, it seems so obvious! Great word for 2018. Wishing you lots and lots of lightness!
I don't have a word and coming up with a K-word may prove to be on the difficult side. Kindness maybe? To myself and others.

  8. What a fantastic word Leanne - and it feels a bit like my word RISE - all about lifting up and putting the weight (and darkness) of last year behind us. I'm looking forward to seeing how it comes into play for you in the year ahead and may 2018 be a great one for both of us!

  9. Great choice. My word this year is focus. I let too many great things pass me by in 2017 because I wasn't paying attention to the things that matter to me. This year, I' determined to live it with my eyes firmly on what matters. Thanks for sharing your word.

  10. Love this "light" post. The idea of "light" is a positive and multi faceted word.
I hope to do myself this year especially on the scales. All of your 'lights' resonate with me.

PS I think about you and your family's challenges a lot. You know what I mean and my heart hopes there is always Light.

I saw the meme and I can't think of a word for T.
PPS - I've been teaching my boys scrabble and it's been a lot of fun.
