I love school holidays and I love spending quality time with the kids, but it's no secret that Monday is my favourite day because that's when I get the house to myself again. So you can imagine how I feel when school holidays have ended!
This week my boy headed to year 9, my daughter started on her path to University, the hubby went back to work and I'm (almost) back into the routine and alone time I thrive on.
The "almost" snuck in there because I don't quite have the house to myself anymore. In fact, I may never truly have the house to myself again (insert dramatic hyperventilation attack here). Why are tertiary hours so damn random and "grown up"? And why do workplaces have such a big "work from home" policy now? Why are all these people still walking around my house during school hours? Hang on, let me recalibrate. Deep breath. You've got this. We can still concentrate on the hours you do have. And how lovely is it that your daughter is back home where she belongs? Plus your hubby gets to be in a less stressful work space. Think of the positives. Put the paper bag down ...
Right then. Sorry for that diversion. Where was I?
Oh yes, this week my boy headed to year 9, my daughter started on her path to University, the hubby went back to work and I'm back into the routine and alone time I thrive on.
I'm taking on new clients, following up with existing clients, getting the magazine sorted, planning my writing days, doing my volunteer work, buying good food, setting the menus, making doctors appointments, helping the kids with their school work and packing lunches. Yep, I'm actually enjoying packing lunches again.
Oh, and I'm making at least one iced coffee date a week to stop, revive and survive. And then I instantly perk up again because I'm new to this coffee gig and it sends me high as a kite.
So that's what I'm lovin' about life this week. Routine. And lunch boxes. And coffee highs.
What about you?

I have to admit, I'm loving having the house to myself again too. This is our daughter's final year at school, so who knows what will be happening this time next year. On another note, I see you've crossed to the dark side ... coffee?!! :) x #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteI like having the house to myself but there's so much on, I'm rarely in it! UGH
ReplyDeleteMy son has started year 9 this year too and although my daughter is already at uni doing a bridging course a couple of days a week before her proper course starts her twin brother's uni course doesn't start for another month!
ReplyDeleteI'm yearning for some home alone time right now to get things done with no one under my feet! In the mornings it's almost like I'm alone however as my son sleeps in all A LOT! Hence my current blog time!

Yep there's absolutely comfort in routine. My hubby's contract is finished so he's contemplating retirement or semi-retirement....for the sake of my work (and my sanity and our marriage) I'm not so sure that's a good idea!
ReplyDeleteOh Jo, he will have to "do" something ....surely. Like who wants their hub home all the time. Oh wait, that is US now. It's working out ok as long as we have 2 cars!!
DeleteRoutines: we love them and then if they go on too long they become tedious. I know that it is good to have a routine but also to break it up sometimes too. So true about tertiary study...they are at home more than at Uni. But maybe you do not have to be the meal maker for those who are in & out of the house. Otherwise you never get a break. Congrats on the coffee...it's been my treat every day since I began my outfit of the day/every day styling thing. I love it because I do like the lift but it is a solo event where I can people watch too. Denyse x
ReplyDeleteI love the serenity of Mondays too!

I do thrive on routine and having the house to myself and believe it or not I actually DO have the house to myself again! After one son being out of work for nearly 6 months and finally now got a job (not permanent yet but fingers crossed) another son home on holidays for over a month (not back at work), I am well and truly reveling in it! #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteI am starting new routines! My youngest is off to Kindy for 2.5 days a week so I am exercising and having me time while he is away!
ReplyDeleteI love routine too, I just need to find that new groove as a school mum!
ReplyDeleteExciting times for all of us though. Sounds exciting picking up new clients as well as all the changes your children are experiencing as they progress through high school.

Aaah, I do remember the school lunch days and I'm so glad they're over! Whilst everyone is back at school I'm actually taking a 6 week holiday. However I'm still working as I travel. #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're back in your happy place and I know what you mean about not having the place to yourself. My husband has studied and then worked from home for the last several years and it's lovely having the flexibility but I miss that "home alone" feeling and love it when he has to go out for a while (I'm a bad wife!) Enjoy that iced coffed - I love them - and even used one in my January round-up post.
ReplyDeleteHow funny your thoughts are Leanne, because I have a feeling we all have these but don't usually voice them!

Thanks so much for linking up for me. Managed a few hours sleep but feel I could do with a few more.
ReplyDeleteI will catch up with a bit of blog reading tonight.
DeleteAlmost done. A couple of blogs I was unable to comment on, on my mobile but almost got through everyone that has linked up. Now to pack for the Gold Coast.
DeleteI love having the house to myself but with my husband and I both working from home it's a rare thing. Packed lunches are not however, nor a never ending need to be inventive with them.
ReplyDeleteHi Leanne I love having the house to myself but it rarely happens these days with both hubby and I retired. When I am alone, I relish it so hope you get some alone time in that busy schedule of yours. I'm tired just reading about all you have to do!
ReplyDeleteI hear you! I love my Blokefolk and hanging out on the weekends, but I really like Mondays. I get a lot of stuff done and I enjoy having a nice tidy quiet house all to myself.
ReplyDeleteMy son is in Year 9 too.
As for your coffee high, I highly recommend trying a good decaf. It used to taste awful but now that it is water extracted and not chemically extracted, it has all the flavour of coffee without the buzz. I can't tolerate caffeine so I do love my decaf!
I'd actually like to be able to work from home sometimes in my current job. I miss having the time at home that I used to... but can understand that it'd be challenging if you had others around in that space!
