There's no denying it - I'm an 80s chick. Reliving the music and the vibe of my teen years is a favourite thing to do. So it was with much glee (and a few too many cocktails) that I embraced new Canberra nightclub, 88 MPH.
A friend of ours turned 50 last week so we figured, what better excuse for a flashback dance fest than to celebrate a zero birthday.
We'd heard about the new 80s bar but we just don't seem to have the stamina to organise big nights out anymore, unless there's a monumental reason attached. 50 seems pretty monumental.
Despite the fact that we entered the joint at 6.00pm (how old are we?) before anyone else had arrived and before the mood had been established, we could feel the 80s vibe immediately. The lights, the colours, the music, the decor and the simple touches (eg the video cassette boxes housing the menus) helped us step out of 2018 and right back into the 1988 teen disco days.

When was the last time you went "clubbing"?
Have you had a nostalgia fix lately?
Any other 80s chicks like me?
Check out the 88MPH website here. On it's own, it's worthy of a look-see.
The club features the main bar area, dance floor, big booth seats (which you can reserve from 6.00-8.00pm), a good cocktail menu and pizzas. It is also home to 3 Karaoke rooms which you can hire for functions.
88MPH can be found in the Basement of 8-10 Hobart Place, Canberra City.
Sounds fun!! Not a big fan of 80's music but I know I'm in the minority on that...
ReplyDeleteI love the 80s! What a fun venue!

That is a club I could go for in a heartbeat. Love reliving the 80s (it is the one music era that everyone in my house agrees on). I had to laugh though that you were there from 6-10 while the "young people" lol would first be going out at 10. So I guess the club was ready for us middle aged folks!!!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!!! I go "clubbing" all the time if you count the local RSL :D :D
ReplyDeleteI love it. I'm off to an 80's do on Saturday night
ReplyDeleteI got all my "clubbing" out of the way when 15 and 16 so by the time I was 18 it was boring as!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous!!! I might have to head down to Canberra just to go there!!!

So much fun! Born in the 80's but consider myself a child of the 90's. Which I guess is technically true. Haha. As far as going out goes, I don't like making plans to do it, but when I do, maybe 1 times out of 5 I have THE BEST NIGHT. So, of course, I go again. Haha.
ReplyDeleteHere the lighting is a little brighter than lounge setting, and you can sit at one of their many tables, or grab a seat by the bar. With a large menu of beers, you might have trouble picking just one. The music at this event venue is always upbeat with a mixture of rock and pop, and the food menu is large as well as their seating.
