Day 3046 - The Lovin Life Linky - Girls Weekend Away Edition

I've leaving ... on a jet plane ...

Today as you read this I will be taking to the skies for a girls weekend away. Not just any girls weekend away, but a girls weekend 30 years in the making.

This time thirty years ago I was settling into life as a first year uni student.  A life of study, parties and living away from home.   A life of "ressies", living on a budget and making new friends.

Some of those friends have lasted a life time and while we all live in different parts of Australia now, living together in a grotty old uni residence all those years ago bonded us in a way that can never be broken.

We know all there is to know about each other.  Well, mostly.  We've seen the good, the bad and the downright ugly.  We've seen each other at our best and we've seen each other at our worst.

So today I'd like to raise my glass to friendship.  The kind that doesn't come with provisos or conditions attached.  The kind that doesn't need regular contact or constant nurturing.  The type of friendship where you can see each other every couple of years and you just pick up right where you left off.

Today I'm lovin' that I'm on my way to a girls weekend away.

How cool is that?

Do you have those kind of friendships?

When was the last time you had a girls weekend away?

What are you lovin' about life today?

  2. I try to go up to see my friend in Brisbane once a year - we were in preschool together and lived around the corner from each other for our entire childhood. My book club goes away once a year but I can't go this year due to HSC...but what can you do?

  3. I love a girl's weekend away and my friends and I are long overdue for one. I'm sure you'll really enjoy your weekend with your Uni friends Leanne. Looking forward to our catch up on Sunday :) x #TeamLovinLife

  4. Enjoy your weekend! Those sort of long standing friendships spanning decades are the best!

  5. Have an awesome time! I do not have long-lived friendships as we moved around so much in our teaching careers. However, I do admire those who keep up these friendships as you so clearly do. Wherever you are going I know it will be the best time-out for you that is much needed right now. ENJOY! Denyse xx

  6. Have a fabulous weekend! It is lovely that you have maintained the friendship for all of these years. I went to a 40 year high school reunion a couple of years ago and it was great to re-connect with girls I had been to school with but lost touch over the years. ENJOY and raise a glass to friendship!

  7. Yes I have regular girl's weekends away, but haven't had one in a while. During recent times on our caravan trip down south I have caught up with two childhood friends, one I hadn't seen in almost 40 years and the other in 27 years. Shameful I know, but I was absolutely over the moon to meet up with both of them and it was as if those years had never elapsed. Enjoy you girlie time!

  8. Have a fantastic weekend! I have these friendships from grade 6. We live in different countries now. Last time I met up with my friends was almost 5 years ago. Enjoy!

  9. You can't beat old friendships can you Leanne? You'll have a great time and I bet you all feel 18 again - reunions tend to do that to us don't they?

  10. Enjoy the weekend, Leanne! I am yet to plan a girls weekend away since becoming a mum. One day...

  11. No I don't have girls week-ends away but I would like to. I'm going to Brisbane this week-end for a girls lunch though. :)

  12. What a fabulous time you'll have, and you definitely need it!!

  13. I'm wondering what 'ressies' are?! And yes, I've got those friends. Some from school I see rarely (now) but am in contact with online. And then my two long-term besties are actually friends I met at Uni and I'm seeing them this weekend when I come to Brissy. And of course we're catching up, which I'm looking forward to!!!

  14. Recently met up with my girlfriend in our NZ hometown, despite both living in Australia. Albeit different states.

We met on the first day of college, very nearly 30 years ago.

    Have a great time!

  15. Totally cool. I love this idea. I saw one of my uni roommates two years ago and it was great. But I am the one who moved half way around the world and always miss the reunions.

I love hearing your thoughts! Keep them rolling in :)
