Day 3192 - Wellness Wednesday - Brain Dump

Sometimes you've just got to let it all out

There are times in life when your mind is working overtime and the thoughts become jumbled and confused as the traffic hits gridlock in your brain.  Motorbikes are weaving in and out of the cars, trucks are slamming on their brakes, buses are honking, pushbikes are flipping over the hood and pedestrians are trying to run through the traffic Frogger style to get to the other side.

Living life in a traffic jam is unhealthy and inhibits easy movement, as does living with the congestion of too many thoughts.  The easiest way to clear the traffic of the mind is to get it all out onto paper.

Whether it be as simple as to-do lists, or whether you need to open up a word document and just type freely without the need for editing, or perhaps you'd prefer to use your online presence to create a well thought out post about what is on your mind. The brain dump is by far the best way to ease the pressure of over thinking.

As I type this post I have another screen open with a Word document capturing all the information that's currently hitting peak hour in my brain.  The more I write, the freer and more in control I feel.

Never under estimate the power of a good brain dump.

  1. I love a good brain dump, such a great way to relieve stress - out of the head, onto a list and then priorities can be set and away I go. Pinning this x

  2. I do this most nights writing in an on-line journal. Best out than in! Denyse #MLSTL

  3. Fortunately my brain isn't particularly loaded up these days Leanne - sometimes I think my life is a little bit too cruisy. But, you're right, when things start to pile up, putting it down on paper (lists are great) is a really good way to look at the bigger picture and prioritize.

Thanks for linking up with us at #MLSTL and I've shared this on my SM x

  4. I love brain dumps. I do morning pages just to get the crap out. But when I know I have a lot of things to do I like to do a brain dump and get them all on paper. Then I group them together into like activities before I started to tackle them. #MLSTL

    1. I group as well. It's best to compartmentalise

  5. I'm so on board with this! I brain dump into lists on AirTable and Google Docs or a napkin! It is wonderfully freeing to get it all out!

  6. I really enjoyed reading your analogy of the traffic jam in relation to what’s going on in our brains. We all deal with this in different ways and I admit to being a list maker. Great ideas #mlstl

  7. Brain dumping is great. It's the cornerstone practice of the 'Getting Things Done' guy and it works beautifully. Thanks for the reminder, Leanne. #MLSTL

  8. I do a good brain dump at least once a week ... and often I feel like I would benefit by doing it once a day. Sometimes I do it longhand in a journal and other times I have so much to get out of my head that typing on the computer is the only way to keep up with the thoughts.

  9. I hear you Leanne and there is nothing better for stress than just dumping all that is in your mind and getting some order. I'm a list girl so I like to make my lists and feel a little more in control. We fill our brains to overload don't we? Thanks for the reminder and it is lovely to have you as part of the #MLSTL community. Have a beautiful day xx

  10. Just what I needed to read Leanne! I was just thinking about my 'over-thinking' an issue and maybe it would be best to just right about it. Thanks for the 'jump start' in my traffic jam. Going to share this on social media for #MLSTL
