Back when I was being the dutiful Mumager and we were taking day trips to Sydney on a regular basis, T and I would often see the Sonoma vans driving up and down the M5. I would spot the black vans instantly with their distinctive logo and wonder what the hell they were selling.
After much pondering (and a Google search) I discovered that Sonoma is a sourdough bread specialist that is stocking many Aussie cafes and restaurants with handcrafted woodfired delights.
Fast forward 18 months and I'm the "plus one" at the official opening of the Sonoma bakery right here in Canberra.
The official launch of Sonoma Braddon
Founded in Bellata NSW, with their introduction to Sydney via the Paddington Markets, Sonoma is a family success story built from "blood, sweat and baking".
Named after the Californian city of Sonoma where Andrew Connole learned the art of baking naturally fermented sourdough bread, Sonoma has become one of Australia's most respected artisan sourdough bakeries.
Check out their incredible story here.
Sonoma Braddon doesn't just stock bread. It is a "buzzing hotspot of good food, great coffee and happy people" with sandwiches, coffee and pastries on offer, and the added bonus of walking home with your weekly bread supply. You can also grab some of their toasted mueslies and specialty coffee.
Sonoma Braddon can be found at 21 Lonsdale Street Braddon. For more information about Sonoma head to www.sonoma.com.au
As I type this my stomach is working overtime in its requests for more bread. Tell me yours isn't doing the same?
#Fortheloveofbread I give you this week's Lovin' Life Linky!
What are you lovin' about life this week?
Who else has a hankering for toasted sourdough with jam?
Any other artisan bread enthusiasts our there?
Big fan of Somona. Loving your Plus 1 status. You're doing a lot of fun stuff with your daughter!
ReplyDeleteI am! I finally got my own invite the other day and she will now be MY plus 1. The tables have turned (temporarily)
DeleteI'm craving a slice of sourdough bread with smashed avocado for breakfast now!

I know right! I was wishing for avo. So I went and bought one, then my bread ran out. So still no smashed avo on sourdough for me.
DeleteThere is little better in this world than good sourdough and jam. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteYou're correct! DIVINE
DeleteFreshly baked bread is irresistible.
ReplyDeleteSure is. The smell alone ...
DeleteBooo! No not really. I cannot eat anything like that bread but I sure do love it. Yum. And I know Bellata is too! Good on these people and their initiative. Denyse x
ReplyDeleteThe centre is so soft and spongy that I think you could totally eat the middle. The outer is tough though. But the inner ... well ... dreamy!
DeleteWell I hope the blood and sweat isn't in the bread but apart from that it looks good!!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA. Me too now that you say that
DeleteThis place looks amazing. In fact, I better not show it to my hubby, because he may want to fly all the way out there just to go...LOL!! He hasn't met a bread he doesn't like!!
ReplyDeleteXOXO

ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy! It was a fun night.
DeleteBread in all shapes and forms warms my heart - these loaves look lovely.
ReplyDeleteThey specialise in a specific sourdough technique which includes a "caramelised crust" YUM
DeleteI love that you are a plus 1 and there is serious bread involved
ReplyDeleteHaha, Yep
DeleteOh yum, what a fun and delicious event to attend!
ReplyDeleteSure was! Although I had sworn off bread only 4 days prior. Oh well.
DeleteThe bread looks delicious. I wonder if they are over in the West. Have a great week and thank you again for the link up.
ReplyDeleteNot out west yet. But I'm sure they will get there one day in the not-too-distant future. Their popularity is on the rise

DeleteNothing tastes better than freshly baked bread with butter, Leanne. I'm hungry just reading your post :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, Glad I could finally make someone else hungry for a change. Normally I'm the one drooling over other people's food posts.
DeleteSourdough bread is one of my favourites. Freshly baked bread has a different flavour to it. Your post reminded me of my homemade bread days.
