On my way to Katy Perry last Thursday night (as opposed to "last Friday night" which would be cooler given that's her song) |
I'm very busy being "busy" at the moment and I'm losing sight of a few things as a result. I'm getting lost in all the stuff. And that's all it really is. It's just "stuff".
I'm using a lot of inverted commas I know, but it just feels like an "air quote" conversation to have.
There's some real stuff I'm working on. Like finding a new distributor since mine went into liquidation, trying to get my next book published, getting the next magazine off the ground and working on a new product. Plus of course all my volunteer soccer stuff and helping my kids with their schooling and extra-curricular activities. And clients. But it's nothing new. It's all the same. Yet I just feel so darn busy, even though a large chunk of my time sees me sitting on my arse getting very little done. Contemplating.

Clearly I'm just in a funk and lacking enthusiasm. Bordering on depression perhaps? Spring may give me some renewed energy to shake off these winter blues.
Plus of course the "stuff" will always feel heavier and more intense when it's taking up brain space. The best thing to do is to get it all out, compartmentalise it and create a plan. That way I can see how busy I actually am (or need to be) and how much of it is just fluff that seems to take up more space than it needs to.
For now I'm relying on my action lists and turning those to-dos into ta-dahs. Colouring them in helps awaken my creativity via my inner child which (believe it or not) works wonders.
Increasing my (iced) coffee intake also helps. I'm almost having a coffee a day right now! For a girl that swore of caffeine for 25 years, this is hard core stuff.
The bottom line is, the only thing that will really help is to stop contemplating and start doing. Stop circling and actually pounce. To stop thinking and start acting.
To stop being "busy" and get back to business.
And then find the energy to get it all done ...
Anyone else getting lost in all the "stuff"?
Busy being "busy"?
Have I completely overused the quote marks in this post?
Who else finds that colouring helps awaken energy and creativity?
With you on the point about how I need to 'stop being 'busy' and get down to business' instead, Leanne. I've been putting off things I know I need to do and now I'm actually going to do something about it. I have days locked in to tackle them.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck in going forwards with all your projects, Leanne!
SSG xxx
You too SSG!
DeleteColouring is fun. Good luck with your action list, Leanne. I'm all for roll up the sleeves and just do it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie. Yep, we all need a dose of Nike from time to time
DeleteI was like that the other week - still am to a certain extent. Too many projects on the go and overwhelm is kicking in so of course nothing but the day job is getting done. I have tomorrow off so I'm going to head off-site, and pick one thing & one thing only to work on.
ReplyDeleteHow'd it go? Hope you made some progress :)
DeleteI've been feeling the same way lately....it's due to our upcoming Alaskan cruise and trying to plan some blog posts around it!!
ReplyDeleteXOXO

How exciting! Can't wait to see the Alaskan cruise pics
DeleteHmmmm. I read this and of course I "get it". I love the use of " " . So, you said something really telling, for me anyway, about not having had coffee for 25 years and now you enjoy one a day.
ReplyDeleteIt is TELLING because we evolve and change. Every. Single.Day. But right now you are doing what you used to do and know but it's not working as it should, perhaps. I know you are not asking advice because you can usually put things to right but at the moment, a few stolen moments that are yours to go outside, see how Spring is coming even though it is so cold. Looking up and around me - taking me out of ME - is one way to help me. Sending love...Denyse x
Mindfulness is always good. Particularly in nature. Agree.
DeleteThere's a balance. I think these muddley periods can actually be quite useful, if somewhat frustrating while they're happening.
ReplyDeleteFrustrating is one word for it. I'm hoping spring will put the spring back into my energy.
DeleteI love the air quotes conversation. Sometimes you get overwhelmed in the 'stuff' - there's a lot of it, and even if you tick it off, it's not very fulfilling. However, focus on what is in front of you. Don't worry about the list of 'stuff' to do. Enjoy the fun moments, and concentrate on wading through the mud. Use the fun 'stuff' to recharge. Hang in there. You've got this!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lydia! Am hanging ....
DeleteWell no matter how busy you are you always look gorgeous and glamorous Leanne! I'm in a bit of a funk too. Really quite down. There's a few contributing reasons but people have far worse problems so I need to pep up and stop wallowing. I love your list and colouring in - I love colouring in! Hope you're feeling better soon! xo :-) #TeamLovinLife
ReplyDeleteYep, feeling down too. Lots of reasons too. But agree, there are people who are worse off. Thanks for the vote of confidence re glamour! Not feeling it, but good to hear I'm pulling it off somehow.
DeleteI know many people who are busy for the sake of being busy. We all do it but most of the time it is not getting results.
ReplyDeleteYep, like being on a rocking horse. A whole lot of energy but not moving forward. Just rocking back and forth getting nowhere - but feeling damn busy in the process!
DeleteHi Leanne I think many of us are feeling the same as you and I know I'm looking forward to taking a blogging break in October. Life just gets too busy and sometimes I just want to step out of the world for a time. Take care and look after YOU! xx
ReplyDeleteStepping out of the world for a bit sounds good to me. I think that's my problem though. I've started to step away from a few things and now finding it hard to get back in! LOL. The motivation and the fulfillment is waning.
DeleteI have been busy because it is the first week of school and I am a teacher but I know that things will calm down. Hope life gets a little less busy for you. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I knew you are teacher. Yes, you would be busy right now! Hope you have a great school year with a good bunch of kids :)
Deletesometimes I get a bit overwhelmed by all the "stuff" I have to do. And I am supposed to be "retired" Hah!! I hope you get through your to do list... mine is being swamped by "stuff" on my desk. Thanks again for the link up and enjoy the rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, The piles of "stuff" on the desk don't help. Enjoy your week too!
DeleteI think a lot of people are feeling that funk and I notice it more and more each year and I think it's cos we feel obliged to taken on more and do more. Our down time is rarely down time. I know I spend any time I have at home feeling bad I'm not doing something more productive!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Yep. That crazy circle where we're constantly feeling as though we should be achieving more. But then get overwhelmed, stop and then feel the need to start again. What's up with that?
DeleteI tend to do what you mentioned when I'm feeling like I'm just going in circles...I write things down and cross them off when finished. And, I like the air quotes in this conversation :)
ReplyDeleteTwins! Nothing like a good list ... and a good set of air quotes!
DeleteHope you enjoyed the concert. You look great. I take Saturdays off just to blob out otherwise I don't think I would get any rest.
ReplyDeleteI like that. Taking a day off to "blob". Yep, need to schedule in a "blob" day each week
DeleteI'm extremely busy being busy at the moment with our house move (and nowhere to go as yet) in 10 days time! Eek!! I'm living amongst packing boxes, a long list of what needs to be done before the move, attending hundreds of rental house inspections, filling out millions of tenancy application forms and then trying to work in between. I feel your pain!!!
ReplyDeleteEEEEK indeed! Eek, eek, eek!!!
DeleteGood luck. Can't wait to hear how it all went.
