Day 3253 - The Museum Shop - Official Reopening

Have you visited the National Museum of Australia?

Two weeks ago I was delighted to attend the official reopening of The Museum Shop at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra.

The Museum Shop features lovely home wares, arts, crafts, jewelry, fashion, books, stationery, gourmet treats, boutique wines and liquor and more.

Just like the Museum itself, everything they sell has a story to tell.

The Museum Shop re-opening was held on Thursday 30 August with guests able to sample some of the lovely Australian wines and liquors on sale in-store.  The drinks, combined with finger food while perusing the unique pieces in store, made for a very nice evening.

With so many unique items for sale, all of great quality and an unmistakably Aussie feel, we all felt very "cultured" by the time we left and proud to be Australian.

The building itself is incredible with The Museum Shop using the post modern architecture to help show off the merchandise.  As you can see from the photos below, the aesthetics really are very appealing.

The National Museum of Australia is situated at Lawson Crescent, Action, ACT.  It is open 9-5 daily with The Museum Shop keeping the same hours.

If you're in Canberra make sure you put it on your list of must-sees and visit the shop while you're there to take home some awesome gifts.  If you're not planning to visit the ACT anytime soon, you can peruse their online store.

For those who already live in Canberra, it's a great spot to do your gift shopping.  I have one friend in the USA who is definitely going to receive something uniquely Australian from The Museum Shop this Christmas.

  1. There’s nothing more exciting than shopping at the museum or art galleries! I wouldn’t mind doing that soon.

  2. I love the whole museum/gallery experience. Appreciating the art and installations, having a snack afterward and then browsing. I can't wait to explore more when I'm away later this month.

  3. I love the Museum of Australia - it's been a few years since we visited, we must rectify this situation. I do love a good museum shop, especially one that's so authentically Australian! I can't wait to check it out.

    1. I think the last time I actually went into the Museum itself to check out the exhibits was back during the 50 years of Playschool exhibit. Very cool,

  4. Looks great! I'm sadly not going to get down to Canberra this year, I don't think, but I will definitely add it to the list to visit next year!

    1. Awesome! It's a shame you won't be in Canberra this year. I need a good head shot and I was thinking of you as the best person for the job. ;) Make sure you look me up if you're down this way next year!

  5. I haven't been here and I'll be honest, it's been a while since I have even been to a museum. Now my kids are old enough to appreciate it, I might start heading back.

    1. I really love that my Miss 18 (almost 19) loves museums and galleries as much as I do.

  6. I went ages ago and it was when Dawn (can't remember her last name) was in charge. I happened to turn up when it was their birthday and there was cake! I am a sucker for shops at places like this. Beautiful items on sale.

Thank you for linking up for #LifeThisWeek. The optional prompt next is: 39/52. Last Thing I Bought. 24/9/18. Denyse
