Day 3270 - The Birthday Edition

Happy BLOGGY birthday!

Today is my bloggy birthday.  Deep Fried Fruit turns 9!

Given I started writing this journal of mid-life in my 40th birthday week, it's not hard to work out that my blog and I share this day of celebration.   It's also not hard to work out just how Deep Fried I am.

It's weird when I think about my age.

As my grandmother was dying I recall feeling like an adolescent as I watched her start to fade. I didn't feel like an almost-50 year old mature adult, but an uncertain and ill-prepared teen working through a new set of emotions and trying to understand the new path paved before me.

I've thought a lot over the last few weeks about how I don't feel my age. I feel like a grown up and I definitely feel like someone with responsibilities, but I still feel like I have the world at my feet.  That my purpose and my big hurrah hasn't been realised yet.  Despite the migraines and fibro pain and the fact my body feels rigid and uncooperative, I still feel so damn young!

Which of course confirms that age is just a number.  Some days we wake up feeling 100 and others we wake up feeling 21 again. Age is a feeling rather than a numerical reminder of our years on this earth.

So as I say in my Deep Fried bio "age is just a mindset, and while those days keep ticking over, I haven't aged a bit."

Having said that, today's numerical reminder says I have one year to create my ultimate 50th birthday persona.  One year to achieve the stuff I wanted to achieve before reaching the next decade.  One year to pack in a bunch of extra memories, ensure good health and be the best version of me that I can be. Why?  Because I want to hit 50 the same way I hit 40 - with pride, celebration and zero regrets.

So here we all are.  Every single one of us. Waking up to the first day of the rest of our life.

Happy bloggy birthday Deep Fried Fruit.

Thanks for being such a close pal for the last 9 years.

Let's get ready for our best year yet!

  6. Happy 9th Birthday dear Blog...and many happy returns of the day to you, lovely Leanne! Age 'may' be a number I agree but there are some days we feel our age. For you, it is about mindset and this is great news! Have a wonderful celebration of all that is YOU. Denyse x

  10. happy birthday lovely lady. I absolutely believe that age is just a number and I certainly don't feel my age. I have more energy than my kids. I have more patience than ever before and more insight to life but still feel young.

  13. Happy Birthday! I totally agree on the age thing. I feel younger now than I did ten years ago - somewhere along the line I realised I needed to enjoy myself and take what life had offer and not worry too much.

  14. Only one of my grandparents lived past 70 so that doesn't bode well for me. (Though my mum at 74 has outlived both of her parents by quite a bit!)

I struggle with the age thing but mostly only when I compare myself to others who have very different lives at my age or who have similar lives but are much younger!

  17. Happy Birthday to you and your blog. I agree with you on age. My mind is stuck on 25, my body reminds me time and time again that age is long gone.
