Day 3361 - The Lovin Life Linky - Welcome to 2019

Happy New Year Balcony

Normally I'd start the year off with a post about my Word of the Year, or a motivational post about us having a clean slate in which to create our life, or a list of wondrous things I plan to achieve over the next 12 months.  All of which is so predictably "Leanne" and just a tad Deep Fried.

Nope. Not doing that this year.  For my first post of 2019 I thought I'd simply roll out my shiny new balcony setting instead.

For Christmas, Hubby and I agreed to buy ourselves a new dishwasher.  The shopping trip finally took place yesterday and as so often happens with this type of outing, we arrived home with a few extras.

Say hello to my new reading nook.

A little spot on the second storey between the lounge room and bedroom where I can read and write, which doubles up as spot for the hubby and I to share a drink or shoot the breeze.

Until now we've never really done much with our balcony.  I actually don't have a proper "before" photo to show you because (a) it's not a spot I'd ever have wanted to show off and (b) we'd done some rearranging before Christmas in an attempt to clean up, so much of the previous furnishings had already been removed.  But it's safe to say for the last 18 years the area has been a hotch potch of mismatched furniture, a jumble of plants and the source of of nesting materials for our friendly neighbourhood magpie.

BEFORE

Here's the jumble of plants at the west end which housed my previous little reading spot (and artwork created by my girl all those years ago).

Here's the recently cleaned up east end which was temporarily housing the tabletop soccer while the Christmas tree took its corner inside the house.

Here's one of two overstuffed armchairs that had originally been along that wall where the magpies had been sourcing their nesting materials for the past five years.  Somewhere in the trees around us there's a big rust coloured nest that gets renovated on an annual basis.  The second chair looks identical to this one.

AFTER

You'll be pleased to know the new furniture is magpie proof.  The plastic weave is durable and the fabric components all fold neatly together to hide away during nesting season.

THE COST?

The five piece Vivin "Mours" setting complete with table, two chairs, two footstools and a protective cover (not pictured) is currently on sale at Harvey Norman for $799 (normally $999).

The artificial plant on the table is $25 from KMart with the outdoor rug currently $39 from Amart Furniture.

So there you have it.  That's my Happy New Year Balcony post and my bloggy welcome to 2019!

Anyone else get new furniture for Christmas?

Who's been to the after Christmas sales?

Got any magpie stories you'd like to share?

  1. Happy New Year, Leanne! I love the makeover! I've been decluttering problem corners of the house. It got unruly over the last year.... Enjoying seeing the floor and bare table tops!!
