Day 3479 - The princess birthday

This little lady celebrates another year of life today

Monday as I picked her up from school she proudly announced it was only 3 sleeps until her birthday.  But then she wondered, was it actually 5 sleeps because her party was on Saturday?

I assured her it was 3 sleeps until her birthday but birthdays last a few days so that you can celebrate properly.   I then whispered that birthdays last a week at my house so we might continue to celebrate for a few extra days next week as well ... including the extra birthday "party" afternoon tea at our house Sunday ... but don't tell anyone.

So this little girl who has two dogs at our house, a dog at her daddy's house and another couple at Gram's house, plus 6 grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, friends, buddies and a big daddy who she adores, will be surrounded by much love in the coming days. Just as much as usual, just with a celebratory factor thrown in.

She won't be alone Her village will be with her.

At 6.00pm last night she asked "where will my cupcakes for school come from?"

A few seconds of silence. What cupcakes for school? Oh crap, I forgot that the younger primary ages did birthday cupcakes.  So I ring Daddy who was on his way to collect her.

"Cupcakes for school?" I asked.  A few seconds of silence.  What cupcakes for school? He too did not know that was a thing.

No worries, we just happen to have Betty Crocker hanging out in the food pantry at our house.  I'll make a batch and be at school at 9.00am in the morning.

That's the village.  That's the village that steps in when her mumma isn't here anymore. Many of us to try our best to fill in the space of one.

So while today is making me extremely emotional for many reasons, and the lead up to Mothers Day (which coincides with the burying of the ashes) is going to be something we'll all need to get through, the village will ensure that this little princess who turns a year older today, is well cared for.

"I love you to the moon and back and all the stars between"
(Mumma)

As Mumma Angel watches from above, I hope she'll be at peace in the knowledge that this child's birth is keeping the village together and we're all working hard to keep her Mumma's memory alive and do what we can to fill that very big space.

Today on Lovin' Life day, I don't just love this munchkin on her special day.  I love the village.
