My dressing gown - you know it's loved when you find food stains on the lapel |
During the week one of my bloggy pals shared a post about the dressing gown. Thanks for the inspo!
Anyway, it got me to thinking about my own dressing gown.
I wear my dressing gown first thing in the morning. As I roll out of bed I fumble in the dark to the wardrobe and go straight to the far right and grab it without error given its home hasn't changed in almost 20 years.
I wear my dressing gown over my PJs to blog.
I wear my dressing gown as I make lunches and tidy the house each morning.
I wear my dressing gown before and after my shower.
I wear my dressing gown over my underwear to do my hair and make up as I get ready for a night out.
I wear my dressing gown over my clothes in winter to stay warm in the house before I ultimately head outside in coat, scarf and gloves.
I wear my dressing gown when I'm sick.
I wear my dressing gown when I'm well.
I wear my dressing gown when I'm feeling down.
I wear my dressing gown when I'm feeling up.
I wear my dressing gown to cuddle the dogs.
I wear my dressing gown to hug my kids.
I wear my dressing gown as I read to my granddaughter as she sits on my lap.
I wore it to breast feed.
I wore it to calm my children in the middle of the night.
I wore it to pick up C at 1.00am after parties in her mid teens.
I've worn it to school drop off and school pick up (the kind you don't need to get out of the car)
I've taken it to hospital.
Recently my husband asked if perhaps I might need a new dressing gown. A gift idea perhaps?
Hell no!!
You see, I got my dressing gown for my first (biological) Mothers Day. When our T was just eight months old I was gifted this blue and white checked Givoni robe by my hubby and baby girl. It may not have been the dressing gown I'd have chosen for myself, but it was bought with love and I knew this piece of clothing would become part of the story of my life.
This dressing gown has seen my children grow, been through multiple pets, seen two homes, met many overnight guests, recovered from a number of illnesses, heard the best news and the worst news. This dressing gown is part of who I am as a mother.
To me, this gown signifies mother love. We've been together for 20 years and we're still going strong.
Tell me, am I the only one who has a love affair with her dressing gown?
Do you have a special bond with yours?
Anyone else got a piece of clothing in their wardrobe that has served them through the best of times and the worst of times?
Again, thanks to the fellow blogger who shared the dressing gown meme during the week (Min? Jo?) You have made me ponder for days on the love I have for mine.
It's Lovin' Life Linky Day!
What is is that you're lovin' right now?
I don't have a dressing gown, but after reading this I want one! What a special bond you have with it!
ReplyDeleteNo special bond with my dressing gown but I can see how you have a love affair with yours.#lovin'lifelinky
ReplyDeleteWhat Di said, I don't have a dressing gown but now I want one! As an aside, I think it might have been Janet...
ReplyDeleteI'm attached to a couple of polar fleece zip up tops - they're my dressing gown equivalent!
ReplyDeleteVery emotionally attached, they were bought whilst I was pregnant. I can't part with them.

You are most welcome for the inspo Leanne ;-) . I also blogged about dressing gowns recently, specifically, how hard it is to find a decent one for a man - you can read it here: https://www.middleagedmama.com.au/real-men-dont-wear-dressing-gowns/.
ReplyDeleteI don't actually have one. I have an old bathrobe (circa 1992/93) but I don't use it much. I did (for the pool) in my old apartment complex, and now sometimes when I get out of the bath and duck into the kitchen mid-way through my soak.
ReplyDeleteI'm overly attached to an old Nike sweatshirt (hoodie) that has more holes than ever and the sleeves have ripped. My mother is horrified I still sometimes wear it outside of the house. (I'm wearing it now!)
I like clothes that feel like love and a big hug. I no longer have many items like that (lost a lot of weight in recent years - not all deliberately) but I did have a Charles Sturt Uni jumper that was fleecy and I wore it every time I wrote an essay. Reminded me what I was studying for. Wish I had kept it.

I just have an old pair of sweats-lol. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

I don't have a dressing grown but I wrote a post earlier this week about attributing value to an item that is greater than the item itself, due to all it had witnessed in our lives...must be a 'thing'
