Day 3672 - A Deep Fried Update

What's going on in the land of the Deep Fried?

It seems it's been a while since you've had a Deep Fried Update. While you know about the Deep Fried Festival of 50 adventures you're probably at a bit of a loss as to what has been happening in "the real world".  So here we go, a Deep Fried Update.

  1. The Day Job: Yep, I did it.  I went to work for realz.  No more hobby level consultancy business but a real life job where I get in my car, join the peak hour traffic and sit at a desk surrounded by other people. Do I like it? Nope.  I love it! I'm currently working for a research and development corporation in an administration role helping with change management, project management, office management and secretariat work.
  2. The Author Gig: Am I still the proud author of the Cheer Chick Charlie series?  Of course I am.  Although I am pulling back from the merchandise and the TV show idea and going back to basics with the books.  Keep it simple.   Currently renewing my Trademarks in the USA and looking to translate to Mandarin and take the series to China. Plus I plan to get them back into actual bookstores in Australia as I stopped all distribution for 18 months and handled the business purely off my website. But, time to get the show back on the road.
  3. Blogging:  Well, you've probably noticed I'm not really on top of it at the moment. But I can't let it go, soooo here I am. Still managing my Thursday's yet being a bad bloggy friend and not visiting and commenting as much. I have set an alarm on my phone to make bloggy reading my Sunday morning ritual over tea.  So ... see on you Sunday!
  4. The Mum Stuff: As my kids get older the mum stuff isn't as intense. Having said that the soccer mum stuff is still required as is the assistance with assignments and study.  Year 10 exams are next week and as yet my boy hasn't picked up a book.  That will change this weekend. I'm also in the process of setting up the dyslexia friendly exam environment for best testing which will include own room, lighting, blue paper and his own font with plenty of white space (blue space?) on each test paper.
  5. House Stuff:  Well this is news ... we are house hunting. Unlike many people our age we are looking to upgrade. Yep, it turns out we actually like our kids and would love for them to hang out with us for a few more years so we're looking for a home with extra living space and a design that allows for young adults up one end and us down the other.  Big steps for us given we've been in our home for almost 20 years. But it feels good.  Fresh starts.
  6. Wife Stuff:  Having just celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary and 25th meetaversary we're doing well.  Closer than ever. I think the change in house will assist with marriage management as it will give us the space we need to get out of each other's way when things start to feel a little claustrophobic (well, I am an only child who is a self professed extroverted introvert ... I NEED my space)
  7. Tea:  I am still drinking it. I still believe it solves life's many problems and could well be the answer to peace on earth.
  8. Drama:  Don't like it, won't have it, refuse to engage in it and will walk away from it.  Let's keep it to reality TV and if you're feeling like you need to chat to me about something, come and knock on my door with a teabag.  We'll get it sorted in no time.
  9. Health and Happiness:  Feeling great.  Still getting way too many headaches and had a bit of a fibromyalgia relapse recently, plus a severe case of the sads (circumstantial) but other than that I am feeling fabulous at fifty. Life is as good as you allow it to be. My new eyelash extensions are outstanding! Still working on the fitness bit though.
  10. Fashion and Beauty:  I'm really enjoying the whole work wardrobe thing. I'm steering clear of traditional suits as much as possible and trying to find an element of fun and youthfulness in my wardrobe without going all mutton dressing as lamb.  My favourite products right now are hair dye, face spritzer, Victoria Secret body spray, hair masks, soothing face masks, Loreal Revitalift, QV body moisturiser and lip gloss. Oh, and in order to keep it real ... Poise liners ... because sneezing and laughing with a full bladder aren't always a good combination when you're Deep Fried.

So that's it from me.  That's where I'm at in this Deep Fried life of mine.  Did I leave anything else? By all means ask me in the comments and I will update you! No question will be left unanswered.  We can chat ... over tea.  Throw it at me!

  1. YOu look fantastic, so 50 or eyelash extensions suit you. As for the house, we did the same a few years ago - we spent a squillion making an extra bedroom and bathroom so we could keep the 2nd living room so that the adult teen could have friends over (or the high school teen) and their privacy at the same time. So for us, money well spent. All I can say is consider the extra bathroom as well as the living spaces. We have 3 for 5 (often 6 with eldest's partner) people, and it sometimes isn't enough! I am not in a hurry to see anyone go, and love our new adopted family member. Life can be good in the simplist of ways.

  3. Loved catching up this way. You not only look well (amazing actually) but sound well. This is great. Life moving onward and upward...yes. Do for you as you need to. Hardly any kids actually leave home these days as they cannot afford it so, yes, so agree with making a new place WORK for all of you. Loved this very much. Happy Thursday! Denyse x

  6. Great to catch up on your news! The new house search is exciting! My boys turn 27 next Tuesday and they both still live at home! My daughter flew the coop soon after her 21st birthday and of course is now living in Cairns. I'm glad you're enjoying the job - that's a big plus! :-) #TeamLovinLife

  7. You look great and sound great - so you must be feeling great and that's great!! Glad you're enjoying the "real" job and I hope the house hunting goes well. We up-sized our house when our kids left home - so that there'd always be room for them to come to stay if they visit, and it works perfectly especially now we have the grandgirls coming too. So I'm all for upsizing - and also downsizing drama and crazy people!
