Day 3707 - Buying big, sight unseen

Have you ever bought furniture online?

It's December (no shit Sherlock), I'm leaving the house at 7.30am each day and not returning until 7.30, 8.30, 9.30, 10.30 at night.  I'm at work all day.  Fitting in my extra projects of an evening.  We've bought a house.  We're selling a house.  It's Christmas.  There's some pretty serious festivities to behold.  There's just no freakin' time to go shopping.

And by shopping I mean SHOPPING.

Big stuff.

Expensive stuff.

The stuff you would normally agonise over for weeks with lots of to'ing and fro'ing before making a final decision.  That sort of stuff.

Let's forget the whole Christmas gift thing for a minute. We just bought a castle.  That's my gift to everyone this year.  Yep, my castle is your castle. That's "Mi castillo es tu castillo" for the Spanish readers or "il mio castello e il tuo castello" for my Italian friends. Or if you want to ditch the Castle analogy and just go with a plain ol' house then it's "mi casa es su casa". But I'm the Queen, so we're going with castle.

But I digress.

Where was I?

Oh yeah, there's just no freakin' time to go shopping SHOPPING.

So I'm doing the only thing anyone in my position would do.  Freaking the f*&K out and shopping online.

This includes buying the furniture for the new Castle (yes, it's worthy of a capital "C" ... don't question it, just go with it).

Now, not only am I buying furniture to fill the cavernous entity that will soon be our home, but that furniture will also be the staging furniture during the sale of our current home. Why the hell would I spend $5,000 to borrow furniture when I can spend that filling the walls of "mi castillo"?

So long story short (I'm Irish, there is no such thing as a short story), I've gone and bought $4000 worth of furniture off the internet, sight unseen. I've not felt the fabric, I've not sat in it, I've not seen the colour in its true light, nor have I got the tape measure out to determine its actual size. I just looked at it, brought up photos of the new castle, determined which rooms it might go in and pressed "buy". No agonising.  No to'ing and fro'ing.  A quick game's a good game style.

Shit.

Did I mention freaking the f*&K out?

Is my Castle actually your Castle?

Who else is freaking the f*&K out?

  2. I'd missed the news that you'd bought. Perhaps that was last week as I missed last week's post. How exciting. And stressful. I'm a big online shopper as I hate actual shopping. I'm fussy about a few things though - I'd need to test a sofa for example, but most other stuff I'd be fine to buy online. I hope you love it all!

  4. I got myself a bit stressed just reading this. But I will take a leaf out of Lydia's book...and say "it will be fine". Whatever, whenever life seems to work itself out. Gosh...selling after buying..that for me is another nightmare but you are very positive. Go Leanne!!

  7. How exciting to have a new house to look forward to! I'm sure you'll have made some great furniture choices and all will be fine. Great idea to use the furniture for styling your current house! I can't wait to see a) the new furniture, and b) the new house! :-) #TeamLovinLife
