The Art

Do you have art in your home?

How far is a light year? by Alexander Grahovsky
The first piece I purchased from Society6 to hang at our stairs
One of the great things about having a big home is that it means we have big walls.  What does one hang on big walls?   Art.

Now we can't all afford the luxury of original art pieces, but that doesn't mean we can't support artists.

Gone are the days where our prints were purchased from big department stores like Harvey Norman or bought at the framing store.  Gone are the days where you had to buy originals that you can't afford. We can now search for artists the world over via sites such as Society6 and support them via prints and so much more. They even do phone covers!

The mission statement for Society6 is to "empower independent artists worldwide".  They host a website that allows global artists to be seen.  Every time we purchase a product from Society6, the artist is paid for their work.  All they need to do is be creative and Society6 then re-prints their work and sells it for them.  From framed prints to canvasses to cushions to throw rugs, you can buy an artist's work in all forms.

What a great way to decorate a new home!

You can join Society6 as an artist or as a customer.  I've bought a number of items for our home already.

To hang in our lounge room which will have mustard yellow tones as you can see by the cushion below

As you can see by the art above, I have a favourite artist already, plus I have an accent colour ready for when our lounge room furniture arrives from the other house.

Society6 has helped me to decorate my home a little differently that I have in the past.  For a fraction of the cost of original paintings, I have been able to support an artist via the option of framed prints and home decor.

What I'm lovin' about life this week is the art.  Watch this space for more to come as I continue to add to our collection.

Do you collect art?

What's your favourite genre?

Got a favourit artist?

Prints or originals?

Have you heard of Society6?

For more information about Society6 head to www.society6.com

Society6 have been a pleasure to deal with (including when I accidentally bought the same piece twice) and they have decent delivery times (around 2 weeks) plus they package the art in quality boxes already framed and ready to hang.

  1. Interesting info and I like how you are making inroads to help others by making these choices in art. Mustard yellow will be interesting for me to see as your decor grows. I am not a 'fan' of it by itself but when other colours are present that can change. What a time you are having...come on old house...time to sell.

    1. I can't wait to share it with you Denyse. Perhaps you need a trip to Canberra to see it in person! Won't be long and I'll have a bedroom ready.

  2. I love your choices. We've been in this house for 3 years now and I still haven't found the right piece to hang above our lounge... Heavy sighs.

    1. Maybe you'll find the perfect piece at Society6! You can choose the colour of the frame, whether it is framed or just a print or maybe canvas. So many choices. Choose by colour, choose genre, choose by style. So much fun!
