The Quarantine Resort Essentials

Anybody having to go into self-quarantine yet?

Let's face it, the chances are we'll have to go into self-quarantine at some point in then next few months.  Whether it be because we've been exposed to CONVA-19, one of our family members have been exposed to it, a work colleague has been exposed to it, or (don't even go there) one of us actually has it.  Corona will likely have us trapped inside our houses soon.

The question used to be: "if you were stuck on a deserted island what is the one thing you couldn't do without?"  Now it's, "during the Corona pandemic, what are you panic buying?"

I've made a decision.  While everyone is out buying the boring old essentials in life, I'm stock-piling on holiday vibes.  If I have to be quarantined, I'm going to turn the isolation into a well deserved retreat. Forget Corona-tine, I'm going for Quara-sort instead.

My Quarantine Resort essentials are:

  • Netflix
  • Huge TV
  • Iced water
  • Bickies and dip (that's crackers and dip for my US readers)
  • Champagne
  • Frozen Berries
  • Nutri Ninja (I'll need more berries)
  • 20 different types of tea
  • An electric jug
  • Chocolate
  • Books
  • Magazines
  • Word puzzle apps on my phone
  • Phone charger
  • Laptop
  • Laptop charger
  • Candles
  • Throw cushions (for no reason other than I like cushions)
  • Throw rug
  • Face masks
  • Self tanning lotion (hey, if I'm going to Quarasort I need to have a sun tan)
  • Basket
  • Rope
Why a rope you ask?  Don't worry, this story is not going to end in tragedy. Quite the opposite in fact.

While I'm at Quarasort I am going to embrace the isolation by not only closing the doors of my house to the outside world, but I'm also going to close the doors to my bedroom.  The basket is to put outside my door with my menu which will be magically filled by hotel fairies each night. When I open my door of a morning I will be dazzled by the delightful resort products within.

When my family gets sick of being my hotel fairies (or perhaps they are locked in their own rooms hoping for their own hotel fairies to visit - good luck with that) I will use the rope to tie to my basket and lower it from my first floor balcony to the ground where Uber eats will fill my basket with Thai food and Boost Juice + a bottle of vodka. I'll pull the basket back up to the first floor ever so carefully so as not to spill the soon-to-be-Boost-Juice-cocktail which is 100% being used for hygiene purposes (alcohol wipes from the inside out). At which point I will add an umbrella to my drink and continue with my fabulous Quarasort isolation.

Oooh, need to add that to my list.
  • Cocktail umbrellas
I will not be choosing quarantine hell, it's quarantine joy instead.

Do you know anyone who is in self-quarantine?

What are you panic buying?

Anybody else going to embrace quarasort?

Tell me your Corona virus stories.

In all seriousness, I wish you all wellness and happiness in these very trying times.  Let's find ways to turn this horrid worldwide event into something fun.

As I always say "if quarantine doesn't bring you joy, find a way to bring joy to quarantine".  I've actually never said that.  But it sounds cool so let's go with it.

  2. Quarasort! Love it. I find the supermarket so bleak these days.. I hear the police will be now present to discourage aggression and hoarding.

    This week I stockpiled ... champagne :-P

  3. Our employee is. His wife is medical. So she is awaiting test results. We had already told him to work from home because we didn't want him to catch public transport or sit in a workshare space. My daughter is but she doesn't have it. She'd just been 'unusually' tired so I kept her home in case it was an asymtomatic COVID. This morning she just has a stuffy nose. So minor cold. But staying home. My hoarding has been limited to coffee beans. Purchased a kilo at a time from the cafe down the road. We have 2 kilos. I hope at least I've helped them stay afloat. I'm pretty disgusted in the people of this nation at the moment, to be honest. We ought to be ashamed of ourselves.

  4. We are on the precipice of what we do not know. I have always meal planned and had a lot of mini meals I made for us in the freezer. But I also let the stock get down and it became a challenge yesterday for me to find ingredients. In the end, I could not so I became creative and found something new to cook and we enjoyed it last night. We are 70 (me ) and 71 (B) and do not want to be told we HAVE to self isolate without a good reason....so we are taking the middle ground for now, Both of us are well. I will still got to shops as need be briefly, get a take home coffee and come home, he is going to Bunnos today and will get what he needs for the foreseeble future. We are already just two here at home and have been for 5 +years so we know how to be comfy but also to have our own space. Take care. Be kind to yourself. Denyse

  5. One of the many blessings of no longer working in a hospital for a surgeon is the reduction in exposure to stuff like this (and don't get me started on my dental days!) I love that I can close the door on the world and be in my own space. I love that I have power, gas and water and enough food. I love that fruit and vegies can't be hoarded and are readily available. Life is pretty darn good - my only wish is for people to stop panic buying, to stay away from others if they're sick or at risk if they become sick, and just let the world turn back into a saner place again. Enjoy your home stay xx

  6. The whole San Francisco Bay Area is under a "Shelter In Place" order, meaning we can not go outside except for essential trips- going to the store, going to the doctor's, getting medicine, walking (as long as you are by yourself). So I have been pretty much going out for walks twice a day and doing things around the house.
